JC CAFE
Brand identity redesign for JC, a growing coffee chain. Scalable logo, iconography, and tone of voice designed to grow with the brand.
context
Growth is a good problem to have, until your brand can't keep up with it. As JC expanded, its existing identity started showing the cracks that come with scale: no unified visual language, no consistent voice, and no single thread tying all locations together, which made it harder to maintain recognition and operational consistency across the network. The client came to us to fix that. They needed a redesign that would work across every touchpoint and reflect what the brand had always been at its core, a place where people actually want to be.
goals
Create a unified brand identity across all locations.Strengthen brand recognition among existing customers. Build a more consistent experience across all touchpoints to improve customer retention and repeat visits. Support the brand's continued market expansion with a scalable identity system that reduces friction when opening new locations. Attract new customer segments, including tourists and first-time visitors.
JC isn't just a coffee house, it's a different kind of place depending on who walks through the door. For someone in a rush, it's fuel. For someone who needs to slow down, it's a sanctuary. That duality became the strategic foundation: each location is a "power spot," a place that meets you where you are and gives you exactly what you need, whether that's a fast espresso to go or a quiet corner to decompress.
The Process
We started with strategy. Before any design decisions were made, we worked to understand what JC genuinely means to the people who keep coming back, and what that could look like at scale, ensuring the system would remain consistent and efficient as the brand expands. That's where the "power spot" direction took shape.
From there, the visual direction came naturally. The palette is built around two contrasting anchors, graphite-navy and golden-cream, that together hold the full range of what the brand offers. One pushes you forward, the other invites you to slow down.
The logo system grew out of a single circle. From that base form, we developed a family of brand elements, a coffee cup, a coffee bean, a power button, all sharing the same geometry, all nodding to the "power spot" idea, creating a reusable system that supports fast and consistent application across all future brand touchpoints.
The same restraint carried through to collateral and copy. Clean type, short texts, nothing competing for attention. And a tone of voice to match, professional without being stiff, warm without being performative. The kind of brand personality that feels like it actually exists.
The Result
The redesign gave JC a complete, scalable brand identity system, one that works just as well on a takeaway cup as it does on a storefront banner, and will keep working as the chain continues to grow. Every location now speaks the same visual language. The palette, logo system, and typography all hold together across touchpoints without feeling templated or flat. And with a tone of voice framework in place, the team has a clear, repeatable way to communicate that actually sounds like the brand. The "power spot" direction gives both the business and its customers something real to hold onto, creating a more recognizable and consistent experience across locations while also supporting smoother expansion, faster rollout of new locations, and stronger brand recognition over time.
